Great news for Pixel fans as Google finally confirms the launch of their new pixel lineup Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google shared some important details about their pixel 6 series, including some of the images and a promotional video.
The official “Made By Google” Twitter account made a thread that gives details of the design and features of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro ahead of their release later in Fall 2021.
After years of mostly just making midrange phones, Google is finally swinging for the fences with better screens, better build quality, and better cameras and create a masterpiece.
And the rumors are right for the first time Google Pixel phones come with their own in-house build SOC (system on a chip) named TENSOR. According to Google, there are tons of improvements in the processor, making the Pixel 6 a unique piece of metal.
Apart from the SOC, there are also many things changed In pixel 6 like a much-improved camera sensor, Android 12 out of the box, and a brand new glossy material design with new colors.
Although Google hasn’t announced the Pixel 6 lineup’s pricing yet, they confirmed the availability of the two phones in eight countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, the UK, and the US.
Let’s discuss in detail whatever we have known so far about these two Pixel phones…
Design and Look:
The regular Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FullHD+ 90Hz completely flat screen with two cameras on the back, a wide and an ultra-wide. On the other hand, The Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz display – a screen that’s a little bit curved on the edges.
The camera block has glossy silver edges on the Pixel 6 Pro and matte black on the standard Pixel 6. Additionally, only the Pro version has a 4X optical zoom folding lens, like a periscope lens.
They both have centered punch holes for the selfie shooters which are in the middle. The display is nearly bezel-less and supports a higher refresh rate. Both the phones have an in-screen fingerprint sensor that opens pixel 6 in a blink of an eye.
There will be a SIM tray slot at the bottom of the left side of the frame while the power button and volume control will be on the right side of the frame. Both phones are built out of metal and the antenna lines are visible in the curvy design.
Both the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro will be available in three different colors with a dual-tone finish. Most probably use the shade of Blue, Pink, and yellow.
Brand new Google made SOC:
They are using a brand new processor, called TENSOR, the system on a chip made by Google for the first time. We almost predict that move from google because they already used pixel visual core, pixel neural core, and titan m security chip technologies on their previous pixel phones.
It’s a good move because all the other players are already made their custom SOCs for their products like Samsung makes Exynos, Apple makes its own silicon chips, and Huawei makes the Kiran chips.
TENSOR is the brand that Google uses for some of its AI hardware-related experiments earlier.
Google had taken the Tensor Processing Units, the TPUs that they use in their machine learning data centers, and made a mobile version of that which powers the Pixel 6.
Combine the CPU, GPU, and RAM power to create a superfast and responsive system that effortlessly handles multiple tasks.
The Chip will improve the camera’s performance, speech recognition, and other features – especially improving voice commands, translation, captioning, and dictation, anything carried out on a device.
Although TENSOR will be built on the 5nm process, just like the Snapdragon 888, performance-wise it’s not as fast but maybe google made some tweaks in between we never know.
With the combination of this T-E-N-S-O-R and stock Android, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro should be able to fly in Gaming, image processing, and multitasking.
Storage and Software:
Pixel 6 might have 8GB of RAM and a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage, with the Pixel 6 Pro it is increased to 12GB of RAM and offers 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of internal storage.
Out of the box, users have the brand new stock android experience with Android 12. All-new themes, new widgets, and color schemes will be available with no additional bloatware or junkware.
With the Android 12 google, first time introduced a one-handed mode and in-display fingerprint sensor. Upgraded Google Translate can be easily operated with one hand.
Along with all the visual changes, Google also improved the privacy and security of Pixel phones by adding hardware-level security modules along with the software.
A UWB or Ultra-Wideband technology might be introduced to communicate with nearby devices and be useful for location tracking.
We don’t know officially what the megapixel count is yet as google reveals very little about the cameras. But if the rumors are true, it might be 50-megapixel sensors included in Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
The pixel 6 has two cameras a main and Ultrawide shooter and there is an additional 4x telephoto lens on the pro version.
The rear camera specifications on Pixel 6 Pro (Unofficial may be changed at the Launch):
- 50 MP, (wide), PDAF, OIS
- 48 MP, (telephoto), PDAF, OIS, optical zoom
- 12 MP, (ultrawide)
Pixel phones have the reputation of producing good quality photos specifically if we see the past couple of years. Because they combine AI technology and computational photography technique.
But in terms of videos, it seems pretty average compare to other vendors like Apple, and Samsung.
With the Pixel 6 google uses their TPU (tensor processing unit) technology with their brand new sensors. According to them, it manages to capture superfast images without blur and processes with its software algorithm to produce great results.
It is applied for both photo and videos and give users the best possible experience from a mobile camera.
The rear Camera supports 30/60 FPS 4K videos with Auto HDR and the front-facing 12 MP camera on the Pixel 6 might support 4K video recording at 30 FPS, which is a higher resolution than most selfie cameras can get.
Battery and Price:
AS of now In terms of Battery and pricing google not revealing anything but according to some unofficial sources claims it will include a 5000MAH battery for the pro version and a little less for the normal one.
There might be support for faster wireless charging for both the phones as google updated some code on Android 12 to charge up their phone fast wirelessly.
With the premium specs, you have to pay a premium price also. I don’t know what the final price gonna be, but I’m assuming it’s over 1,000 bucks for the pro and a little less for the normal one.
With the Pixel 6 Line up, Google wants to create its own ecosystem where every piece of hardware and software is made by itself. It has two main benefits…
Move like TENSOR chip helps google to offer support for a longer period of time for their future pixel lineup and don’t have to rely on third-party vendors like Qualcomm. They even extend their software support without any dependency.
In the future, they may use their chips in all low and high-end products which reduce the cost and increase the profitability of the company. And due to the use of similar hardware and software users have a seamless experience with all the Google products and stick to Google for a longer period of time.
