Price and Purchase Options:

There are two types of variants available one is AMD Verint and another one is powered by Intel so you choose according to your needs. For most people, the differences between the AMD and Intel variants will be insignificant as they both do productivity work very well.

Microsoft says the AMD models are better for multi-threading performance tasks, whereas the Intel variants have a slightly stronger GPU and faster single-threaded performance.

If you’re looking for a device that has better multi-thread app performance and longer battery life, then choose the AMD variant but If you’re looking for a device with faster single-thread app performance, along with more RAM and storage options, the Intel variant is perfect for you.

Microsoft releases consumer and commercial variants separately with multiple RAM and Inbuilt storage options and the Laptop 4 is currently available in all major countries.

Design, Display, and Overall Looks:

Surface Laptops are maintained their design language and the Surface Laptop 4 design matches the other surface laptops and they continue their minimalistic looks here which I like the most.

Microsft is selling both 13.5″ and 15″ laptops with almost the same design just the difference in color and feels. The Platinum, Blue, Sandstone, and Black colors look gorgeous, and the 13.5 inches model is just 0.57 inches thick and weigh just 2.79 pounds (1.3 kg), which makes it a breeze to carry around in your bag while surfing around.

The 15 inches model is also very lightweight just 3.4 pounds but the biggest difference is in the touch and feels section, the 13″ platinum model carries a new Alacantra design keyboard where it almost feels like if you made velvet out of rubber that’s pretty much what it feels like and I love it.

Sadly the 15″ models are having the regular keyboard without Alcantara material and come in Platinum and Matte Black colors. The Alcantara material on the keyboard doesn’t just look fantastic but also helps immensely during long typing sessions. Ice Blue and Platinum are available with an Alcantara finish, but only in the 13.5-inch model.

The 13″ Laptop 4 for measures 308 mm × 223 mm × 14.5 mm (12.1” × 8.8” × 0.57”) and 15” model measures  339.5 mm × 244 mm × 14.7 mm (13.4” × 9.6” × 0.58”) both are super slim and easily accessible in any place.

On the left-hand side, you have a USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C port for transferring files and charging other devices, not a Thunderbolt, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack for connecting your favorite headphones and we have a Surface connect port on the right-hand side for charging.

The body is made from good quality Alumunium and on top of the lead you have a new windows logo striking out with darker shade and when you open the Laptop you still see the big bezzles covering the screen and very nice spacing keyboards along with one of the best trackpad in a laptop.

The 13.5-inch model comes with a 2256×1504 resolution display whereas the 15-inch model has a 2496×1664 resolution display. Both have a 3:2 aspect ratio and 10-point multi-touch with support for the optional Surface Pen.

On top of the screen bezels, we have some sensors, an infrared sensor, a light sensor, and a 720p f/2.2 HD webcam for all your video conferencing and calling needs.

The Omnisonic speaker is set up exactly the same as before they’re permeating through the deck of the keyboard and I think it’s a very interesting way to incorporate sound it sounds clean, crisp, and more importantly Laptop 4 comes with Dolby Atmos 9.

The overall looks and design are good and the display is gorgeous but in a 3:2 aspect ratio screen the color accuracy, and gamut are not as good as let’s say the MacBook Pro or Dell XPS 13 but it’s close.

The brightness is near 400 nits which is very respectable but there is a lot of reflection especially in the bright light atmosphere and in some cases, the colors look very dull and have a whitish tint on them.

While the Windows Hello face sign-in process is seamless in most conditions, it took too much time in low-light situations and required entering the pin. So a fingerprint scanner in such cases would have been more convenient.

Performance and Battery Life:

The Laptop 4 is pretty smooth in the day-to-day operation and the performance is so much better than the previous surface laptop. If you want a working or personal laptop that can handle multitasking and a number of things, then the Surface Laptop 4 is for you.

These laptops are powered by AMD and Intel Core processors. Two types of AMD processors have been used one is Hexa core AMD Ryzen™ 5 4680U Mobile Processor with Radeon™ Graphics and the other one is octa-core AMD Ryzen™ 7 4980U Mobile Processor.

On the other hand, Intel-based machines are powered by Quad Core 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 processor and Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7 processor.

Both Intel and AMD versions get the best out of Laptop 4 but still if you’re a developer doing anything multi-core related then AMD has done a fantastic job for you the performance is great although it doesn’t beat out an m1 MacBook Pro or Dell XPS 13 it gets very very close in fact anything CPU related this thing just dominates.

However, if you’re a creator someone who’s doing a lot of adobe work in photoshop or adobe premiere pro go with intel the IRIS XE graphics chip is just so much more powerful than the RX Vega 8 in AMD.

After opening dozens of Chrome tabs, listening to music through YouTube, watching Netflix at Full HD, playing 4K videos on youtube, Microsoft Teams video conference call in the background, and chatting on both Slack and Discord, the Surface Laptop 4 doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.

The file transfer through SSD is quite fast sending a large 50GB AVI video file being transferred from an external HDD to the laptop’s internal SSD we are getting 572.65 Mbps transfer speed which is slower than contemporary competitors like the Dell XPS 13 (806 MBps) or the Thinkbook 14s Yoga (886.35 MBps).

Despite not being a gaming device, if you want the occasional stress-buster, it would be more than up to the task. You should be able to play many games at acceptable frame rates, especially if they’re older or less graphically demanding but new games at high refresh rates don’t give you the desired experience.

The Surface Laptop 4 can play Age Of Empires without many hiccups for the most part even on battery power, and without any stutters at all when plugged in. The 60Hz display is amply smooth thanks to the excellent performance on offer here, and due to the fluid performance, multitask gestures also work as they were ideally meant to in Windows 10.

Heat management is really good as Microsoft stepped up their game here on maximum load the laptop gets up to 90 degrees but came back pretty quickly at 80-85 and where the actual CPU clock speeds hovering around 3.1 gigahertz fan noise gets over 40 decibels not load at all.

In Geekbench 5, the Surface Laptop 4 got a single-core score of 1,356 points and 4,918 in multi-core. If you’re after a super-portable laptop that can get some work done, the Surface Laptop 4 can certainly get the job done

Battery Life:
For the Surface Laptop 4, battery life is one of the big USPs, and Microsoft claim you can get 19 hours of battery life in AMD and up to 17 hours in Intel variants however in our testing the laptop lasted for around 11 hours on a single charge until the battery reached 5 percent and showed pop-ups to connect to the Surface Connector.

The test includes an hour of streaming 4K video content, 30 minutes of Maxwell-render for rendering videos, an hour of playing Asphalt 9, a couple of hours of using Microsoft Teams, browsing with three different browsers with multiple tabs open, Using Adobe Photoshop for editing images.

Finally, we can say there is a decent battery improvement from the previous generation and if you’re choosing the base $999 version then it’s pretty awesome in this range but the expensive variants are facing real competition when Dell XPS 13 last 13 Hours and Macbook M1 lasts 14 hours.

Windows 11 is the new big thing for your surface:

The Surface laptop 4 came with Windows 10 and was upgraded to a new Windows 11 so you have a wide range of new features and utilities for your home and office works.

There is not a trace of bloatware present, which means that the laptop boots up nice and quick every single time, and you don’t have to spend your first hour with the laptop disabling startup programs or uninstalling things.

And unlike the first Surface Laptop, it’s a full Windows 10 installation, too – no S-Mode here – so this clean slate means that you can easily make the Surface Laptop 4 yours. Do you need Surface Laptop 4 as your Daily Driver?

Surface Laptop 4 offers incredible security out-of-the-box with integrated hardware, firmware, software, and identity protection. Customers can maintain control of sensitive information with a removable hard drive for data retention and get more security and control with cloud-first device deployment and management, all the way down to the firmware layer.

For years, the Surface Laptop has stood apart from the crowd with craftsmanship unlike any other. We’ve spoken about how much we believe the details matter – and that conviction is rewarded when we see Surface Laptop consistently hold the highest customer satisfaction rating in its class.

Buy it if you’re a writer who writes seamlessly the comfortable Alcantara material to this keyboard surface is great for palm, and typing is simply effortless on this device. The key spacing is great for typing and the touchpad is incredible.

The 3:2 aspect ratio of the Surface Laptop 4 is is great for working on documents and spreadsheets. Even on this small screen, the larger vertical space allows you to see more effortlessly. The battery life is great and even improved further with the Windows 11 upgrade.

And there are some things that we don’t like and hope Microsoft should improve these in the next release. Sometimes the Surface connector is easily detached from the device with a little shake, we have only one USB type-C and A port, and the thunderbolt port is missing, camera quality could be better.

But overall for creators and working professionals, it’s a nice choice but other brands like Apple, Dell is also produced similar kinds of Laptops even with better features and looks. For example, the Dell XPS 13 and Macbook Pro M1 are also great so It’s you to decide.

Anyway if you already using Surface Laptop 4 or want to know anything specific about the device please let us know in the comments section below.
