One of the great moves is the company gives the OS for free to original windows 7 and 8 users in the form of an upgrade. Only the new user has to pay for the OS along with the system whatever they purchased.

Microsoft tried to create one common platform for all the products like desktops, tablets, and smartphones that’s why they created windows 10. It gives the same windows experience to all the users.

Several other editions of Windows 10 are also available but not directly to consumers. They include Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Enterprise Mobile, and Windows 10 Education.

Some Improved basic features of 10:

Re modifying the Start menu:

start menu

After wiping out the start menu in windows 8 many users don’t like it and wanted the old one, so Microsoft re-introduced the start menu with lots more features into it, you can easily create or change anything of your choice.

Now, when you click on the Start button at the bottom left of the screen, you get two panels side by side, with the left column showing pinned, recently and most-used apps.

You also get a power button at the top for options such as Hibernate, Standby, and Shutdown, and an all apps option available in Windows 8. The right column features a selection of live tiles that you can customize, resize and reorganize.

You can have the Start Menu expand to the full screen whenever you want, eliminating the need for a Modern UI Start Screen.

Cortana the Voice Assistant:

The new virtual assistant from Microsoft is called Cortana. It works with your computer’s microphone or any other device connected with it. You just have to speak anything and if this makes sense to Cortana then the job gets executed immediately.

Just like any other digital assistant tool Cortana is very efficient. You can get time and date information, Weather, check for anything particular phrase on the internet, play a song or movie, open any specific app, etc.

Some pro stuffs like to search your hard drive for specific files, pull up photos from specific dates, or launch PowerPoint presentations just by telling your PC to do so.

Cortana also has the power like sending an email to you when you are busy with other stuff. So gives you a complete multitasking experience and you don’t have to install any assistant software it’s just integrated into the system.

Microsoft Edge Browser:

Microsoft introduced A new browser in windows 10 called Edge Browser. This browser gives the users a much better experience in internet surfing. The first-time company made a web browser which is Chromium(an Open-source project from google) based and gives the user a much faster, stable, and reliable web browsing experience.

New features include PDF support, a reading mode that improves the layout of long articles, and a new note-taking feature is included. Like other browsers like chrome you also integrate other application extensions here.

Cortana is integrated with the Edge browser and intelligently stores the data from your most visited web pages and gives you recommendations accordingly.

Microsoft replaced the old “internet explorer” and create the default browser “Edge”, although the old one is still available.

New Action Center:

A completely new way to look at all your notifications is done by a new action center. It’s pretty different from previous versions of Windows.

It collects alerts from your device from all your apps, similar to the notifications drawers in iOS and Android. Depending on the app, you can also respond or react from this panel itself, with each notification expanding to show more actions.

Action center gives you the to access all the notifications in tile button format and you can easily customize these according to your need. All the important notifications like receiving a new mail, new system update, or any app-specific update are displayed here and shown according to their priority.

A small option like adjusting your screen brightness is also possible from the action center.

New Virtual Desktop:

By far the most interesting feature when it comes to multitasking. A new Multiple Desktops feature lets you run another set of windows as if on another screen, but without the physical monitor.

Instead of having multiple windows open on top of each other on one desktop, you can set up a whole other virtual desktop for those programs to reside in. If you are working on multiple apps and worksheets at a time then it’s really useful by the help of a virtual desktop you can easily choose and categorize your apps in a structured way.

To use it, simply hit the multi-screen icon next to the search box in the toolbar, and tap the Plus sign to the right of the taskbar. After this, to switch between desktops, you can press the button again and choose the large thumbnail.

Introduction of  cool new features :

Tablet Mode:

Windows 10 is a multipurpose OS means it’s made perfectly for all whether you are using a desktop or tablet. If you’re using a keyboard and mouse with Windows 10, you’ll be in desktop mode by default.

If your computer also has a touchscreen, you can go into tablet mode at any time. Tablet users can also switch back to desktop mode if they prefer

To access and switch between tablet mode you just go to the extreme right corner in your taskbar and click on a message-like icon to open the action center. Here you find the tablet mode option tile just click on it to go to the specific model.

Xbox App:

For the game lover, it’s a huge opportunity because Microsoft included their Xbox platform into windows 10. If your system supports high-end gaming then you are ready to play world-class games online from your PC itself.

The new operating system will support Xbox game streaming (through your home network), with improved speed and graphics performance thanks to DirectX 12 support.

The app also lets you record, edit, and share your gaming victories with the Game DVR feature, which lets you grab the previous 30 seconds of your game so you don’t miss unexpected wins. You’ll also be able to join your friends in games across Windows 10 or the Xbox platforms and see your friends’ activity via Xbox Live.

The Xbox Game Bar is the platform where you see and manage all Xbox-related widgets personally. There are a lot of options like Audio, Capture, Gallery, looking for a group, performance, Resources, Spotify, Xbox achievements, Xbox social, etc.

  • Universal Apps:

Today we are using similar apps on our PCs as well as In Mobile or Tablets. To give the same experience within these devices, Microsoft created Universal apps. Within this category, the company creates its own set of Universal apps with the OS, including Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People & Messaging, and Mail & Calendar, which all function the same way on tablets, phones, and PCs.

The content is stored and synced via Microsoft’s cloud service OneDrive so you can pick up where you left off on another device. The system even detects duplicates and stores just one copy of the same image, and can automatically create good-looking albums for you.

  • Your Phone App:

Windows 10 lets you allow to connect your phone with the PC (via WiFi or Bluetooth) with the help of your phone app. You don’t need any third-party software for that.

With the Phone app, you can get smartphone notifications, text messages with the ability to reply, messages from WhatsApp and other social media apps, images from your smartphone, and much more. Also, calling a friend direct from your desktop is very much possible.

To use first install software called Your Phone Companion on your mobile and pair it with your desktop, that’s all you are ready to go.

  • WiFi-Direct feature:(Mobile Hotspot)

WiFi-Direct is a connection-based feature that allows for device-to-device communications. Linking devices together without a nearby centralized network. One device act as an access point, and the other connects to it using WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) and WiFi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2) security protocol.

You can turn your Windows 10 PC into a Mobile Hotspot with the WiFi-Direct feature and give other devices the option to connect to this network and use the internet facility. Just like any other WiFi connection you just have to log in with a username and password.

Windows Hello:

Windows Hello is a more personal and secure way to get instant access to your Windows 10 device. It’s a security feature that allows you to unlock your PC with fingerprint or facial data.

All the new Desktops or Laptops are made with Fingerprint reader, facial reader or Irish scanner which works with Windows Hello.

So for the first time you just have to record your face, finger, or retina data then windows hello makes it easier and safer to secure your PC. Hello is integrated with all the apps so if you want hello to protect your app, it’s very much possible.

Microsoft Store – A big Move:

microsoft store

Lastly, one of the big features introduced in Windows 10 is Microsoft Store (earlier known as Windows Store in Windows 8), a digital distribution platform owned by Microsoft.

It started as an App distribution store in windows 8 but slowly collaborated with other companies like Netflix, Spotify, Amazon, and iCloud to give users the ultimate multimedia and gaming experience.

The Store is getting large day by day as the developers create new apps every day. From education to entertainment, books, and games all categories are available with thousands of options. But you have to pay for the apps, some are free.

  • Windows Mail Client:

One of the latest upgrades is a mail client added within the system, So you don’t have a browser to open mails. As mail is integrated with Office 365 (another product of Microsoft) now you directly open your mails and edit with Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) directly.

You can also add your other accounts like Google, Yahoo, and iCloud with the super useful mail app.

Lastly, should I go for It?

If you’re using an older version, such as Windows XP, Vista, or 7, then you are missing this whole new bunch of features that we discussed above. So our suggestion is if you use an old PC, your computer probably won’t meet the hardware requirements to upgrade to Windows 10. Then carry on with your current version.

But If you’re thinking about upgrading your old PC, we’d recommend purchasing a new computer that already has Windows 10 installed.
