Demand for tablets has increased these days as people want bigger screens for many multiple reasons & many brands are launching their tablets. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro is a nice option if you’re looking for an android tablet with great features. It comes in 3 different variants & this one we have is the Wi-Fi version, there’s also a 5G variant.

If we talk about affordable Android tablets then we don’t have many options at the moment, the available ones are either very expensive or cheap. But what most people are looking for is a tablet that is both powerful and affordable, So Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 5 Pro is a great option. Although the Mi Pad 5 Pro is only available in China at the moment, it is expected that Xiaomi will bring it to other countries soon.

Although this tablet is not available in all markets and you have to import the device via other import channels but looking at the specifications the route is worthwhile because the 11-inch tablet is a real alternative to the Apple iPad in terms of looks and performance. However, the Pad 5 Pro costs considerably less and has a 120 Hz display and 67-watt fast charging.

Apple will undoubtedly be at the forefront in terms of compact and powerful tablets, but brands like Xiaomi are not far behind. The 11-inch tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 870 which is currently one of the fastest mobile SoCs. This practically gives lots of power inside.

And one section where Xiaomi has a definite advantage over Apple and Samsung is the price, The Pad 5 Pro with 6 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and WiFi connectivity is available for 2499 Yuan/ 391 dollar/ 348 Euros whereas the new iPad mini 6 priced at $499 for the base 64GB model having a 60Hz LCD screen.

Design and Build Quality:

In any case, the Mi Pad 5 Pro will give you the same touch and feel as a premium device, and if you hold it in your hand, you will understand it. The 11-inch tablet is very strong and the polycarbonate matte finish black looks very stylish.

You know how in the past for some phones Xiaomi and Redmi have gone with the glass back but a plastic frame this one does the exact opposite we have a metal frame and a plastic back we like it though the matte plastic finish is quite excellent it doesn’t pick up a bunch of fingerprints or smudges.

The sturdy aluminum frame and a matte back cover with a silky surface finish, make it look and feel high-end. The same applies to the physical keys that are arranged around the corner.

The mi pad 5 Pro and Pro 5g both have the same design and weight is pretty similar 515 grams and a little extra on the 5G version 518 grams so It’ll be difficult to use it with one hand as you’ve stretched a lot, so holding it two hands will be more comfortable.

Length: 254.69mm, Width: 166.25mm, and thickness: 6.86mm so it’s pretty slim, and putting a case is not going to bother you and it comes in white gradient color that looks good, as we’re using the black color looks clean.

In terms of buttons and ports on the right side, we have two speaker grills, a microphone, a power button also works as a fingerprint scanner, there are two more speakers on the left, a microphone, and a USB Type-C port that supports quick charge 4 but lacks the video output feature.

On the top side we have two more microphones, a volume-up done key, and a magnetic strip for connecting and changing the stylus, we have a pogo pin connector at the bottom to connect the Mi keyboard and protective case combo.

Xiaomi mi pad 5 Pro comes with three cameras, two at the back positioned at the top left corner if you hold the tablet in portrait mode and a single selfie camera also placed at the front in the same orientation.

So design and build wise we have no complaint the tablet looks stunning from the outside and the camera and button placements are good they produced haptic feedback.

Display and Cameras:

The Mi Pad 5 Pro comes with an 11-inch WQXGA display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10, TUV Rheinland low blue light hardware scheme certification, and TrueTone True color display.

Xiaomi uses an IPS LCD panel that supports 2560X1600 pixel resolution with a 275 PPI pixel density. Although it’s an LCD not LED still you get a wonderfully bright screen with vivid colors and a maximum level of sharpness.

Tablets are generally used for consuming multimedia so from that point of view the mi pad 5 pro is up there with the top players. The viewing angles are good, not great as AMOLED but the brightness can touch 600 nits means you have a very bright screen for outdoor operation.

There are different modes available under screen settings which lets you alter your screen settings. By default, everything is automatic but you can choose sunlight mode, light or dark mode, and different colors schemes (Auto, Saturated, Standard), and if you prefer choose the manual mode.

The 120 Hz refresh rate boosts your viewing experience and the 240 Hz touch sampling rate brings the display as fluid as it can when you use a stylus. Overall features like Dolby Vision, Eye Protection Mode, and Sunshine Screen 3.0 support this display to a great extent.

Cameras:
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro Wi-Fi only variant comes with a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor for portrait shots. However, the 5G model will come with a 50MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. It has an 8MP selfie snapper on the front.

The 50MP main camera captures excellent photos over the 13MP but overall they both produce some quality photos for their class. Most of the photos are well captured with punchy colors. The white balance and sharpness level are appropriate and the photos came up with low noise and a natural-looking dynamic range.

The 8-megapixel photos from the selfie camera are decent for the class with good contrast and a wide dynamic range. The  Close-up and portrait shots were taken with the 5MP Tele macro camera are pretty good.

And the good part is you have the electronic image stabilization from the front and back cam so shooting a video without a tripod doesn’t mess up your recording you get a stable shot. You can shoot 1080p at 30 fps from the front cam and 4K at 30 fps from the back and the videos are perfect for day-to-day use.

Storage and Performance:

In terms of performance, Xiaomi hit sixes with a flat bat because the Mi Pad 5 Pro has a Snapdragon 870 processor which is very powerful and power-efficient used in top premium mobile phones.

The Snapdragon 870 is an Octa-core CPU built on 7nm technology and supports 5G. Between eight cores one Kyro 585 core clocked at 3.2 GHz, three Kryo 585 clockes at 2.42 GHz, and four Kryo 585 at 1.80 GHz.

The GPU performance is great in this chipset the Adreno 650 GPU delivers smooth, fast graphics rendering when you have a high intensive workload like high-end gaming or rendering a video.

The mi pad 5 Pro comes with a 6GB LPDDR5 high-speed memory and two storage options 128GB and 256GB. The 5G version of mi pad 5 Pro sports a higher 8GB/256GB memory. The storage here is UFS 3.1 so you get higher reliable read and write speeds.

Although the Qualcomm processor is two years of age but still used in many midrange premium handsets. The overall performance of this chip is good and with 6 or 8GB RAM, the tablet manages to run anything that you throw at it. The normal daily tasks are smooth and surfing, gaming, and watching are no problem in terms of gameplay, it performs extremely well.

The game-like Genshin impact you can play at 60 fps with the highest visuals and it’s running well most of the time it is running at 60 frames per second and this is using the game turbo you can also clear out the ram, take screenshots, screen capture video and do not disturb the settings.

You can play PUBG mobile in mi pad 5 Pro with extreme frame rate if you choose smooth balance or HD and absolutely no surprises here it’s handling PUBG with absolute ease it’s a constant 60 frames per second the tablet’s barely getting even warm.

So from a storage and performance point of view, you get sufficient storage and RAM and the chipset is super fast and snappy from medium to the high workload you don’t feel any frame drop or lag here.

Battery Life and Quick Charging:

One of the integral parts of any tablet is undoubtedly its battery life because most of us want to choose a tablet that lasts long and we can easily carry the device without wanting to plug it in for a day or two.

Thankfully the 8600mAh battery will easily last you for a day even with heavy to moderate usage, and if someone like me uses the tablet for entertainment purposes and uses hardly one or two hours it will probably last a couple of days with a single charge.

Here Xiaomi is tweaking some settings in OS that also help to save battery and apps that stay long in memory the tablet forcefully closed them to save battery. So using a screen of 120 Hz the battery backup is great and if you turn it down to 60 Hz that lasts even more.

The unique thing here is the mi pad 5 Pro supported 67-watt fast charging which fills the battery from 20% to 100% in 49 minutes so good for a quick tablet and another scenario from 12% to 100% it takes only 1:45 minutes again for a tablet that is so fast and quick.

MiUi 12.5 with Android 11:

From a software perspective, we have the tablet version of MiUi 12.5 which is just like the regular version of MiUi but with some icon and appearance changes but still looks familiar, nothing major changes here.

The tablet runs on the latest MiUi 12.5 patch here which of course is for the Chinese ROM so this ROM only has English and Chinese so that’s why we would say it’s probably best to wait for the global version of this particular tablet which is rumored to be coming out pretty soon.

MiUi is a custom skin made by Xiaomi and ideal for those who want all the necessary applications integrated inside the system. MiUi 12.5 has the latest ROM built upon Android 11 and gives you more personalization options.

You can opt to split the notification shade into two parts swiping from the upper left corner will show you all of your arrived notifications while swiping on the opposite side will open the control center with your options and toggles.

Choose to keep all of your apps on the home screen or within an app drawer, the drawer itself will automatically organize your apps into categories.

Xiaomi’s gesture navigation system is among the best out there. It employs the usual actions – swipe up for Home, swipe up and hold for Recents, swipe from the sides to go back – but with a simple twist that Google has yet to learn.

Other important Features:

  • The display has the Rheinland Low Blu-ray Hardware Scheme Certification means less harmful for your eyes for longer use.
  • Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G has a single Nano-SIM card slot, no limit to operators but only for data and SMS functions, and does not support voice functions.
  • Different positioning systems are supported like GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, and AGNSS.
  • The mi pad 5 Pro has the Hi-Res & Hi-Res Wireless Audio Certification, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and the 8 speakers surround sound gives you an immersive experience.
  • In terms of sensors, it has an Ambient light sensor | Acceleration sensor | Gyroscope | Electronic compass | Hall sensor.
  • The tablet also supports a stylus and keyboard with a case to give you a complete laptop-like look and feel and using the PC launcher you can get a PC-like experience.
  • Connectivity – It supports Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 so that’s good. It gets Widevine L1 support (Chinese devices usually come with L3 support) but this has L1.

How to Buy?

Although the Mi Pad 5 Pro has not been launched globally yet you can buy the Chinese version if you want but in this case, you will get the Mi Pad 5 Pro with Chinese ROM which only supports the Chinese and English languages.

You will also find many extra applications and bloatware inside the tablet which you can easily uninstall. However, if Xiaomi planning to launch a Global version of this tablet then definitely we have a Global ROM for the Mi Pad 5 Pro so it would be best if you buy the tablet a few days later.

Currently, you can import Mi Pad 5 Pro directly from China. If you go to websites like Alibaba, 28 Mobile, Giztop, and search, you will get Mi Pad 5 Pro, but according to the law of your country, you have to pay import duty.

Should it be worth it to buy mi pad 5 Pro?

Here are the things we like about the mi pad 5 Pro…

  1. The build quality is excellent and has really good weight distribution, the tablet is light just over 500 grams, very very thin it feels like a premium metal frame around the outside, really good speakers, and a very good screen even though it’s IPS.
  2. It has a very good screen so 600 nits maximum brightness 2560 by 1600 resolution looks sharp it’s fully laminated very responsive to touch, and the UI performance is great, feels fast and fluid thanks to that 120-hertz refresh rate.
  3. The 6GB RAM and Qualcomm 870 chipset is adequate for your all multitasking, gaming, or computing needs.
  4. The cameras are good and produce some good photos/videos and are perfect for video conferencing.
  5. the 8600 mAh battery is more than adequate for daily use and the 67-watt fast charging is by far the first to be introduced in a tablet.

Things we don’t like about the mi pad 5 Pro…

  1. There is no 3.5 mm headphone jack and we don’t even get the 3.5 to USB type-C converter either, It must be included.
  2. The tablet doesn’t support microSD card expansion and tablets are media-consuming device means we need more space to store our files and it’s a simple feature absent here.
  3. Competitors like Lenovo and Samsung give the video out features in their tablets but no video out of the type-c port means you cant clone the tablet display on a big screen.
  4. The fingerprint reader is not always on you have to press it to unlock the tablet but it does work accurately.
  5. There is no charger, keyboard, or stylus anything inside the box you just get the tablet and some paperwork and we think at least a fast charger should be included inside.

Thanks all of you, this is a complete description of the Mi Pad 5 Pro. The tablet could undoubtedly be a great device and could rival Apple or Samsung if Xiaomi launches it globally at the right price. Anyway, don’t forget to let us know what you think about the Mi Pad 5 Pro in the comment box below.

  1. I have never used any other tablet, besides Apple, but it is good to know there are good ones out there that are slightly more affordable, as Apple is really getting expensive, and I know soon I will need to upgrade my iPad.

Great to know that the battery will last, as it is not great when the battery doesn’t last long enough to complete a day at work, and in my case it is playing music for my dance classes.

I just wondered if these tablets will support Apple Music, or do they have their own similar music streaming service?

    1. Nice to see more Companies started to produce quality products like mi pad 5 Pro and it’s really a value for money product that gives you performance and productivity. Upcoming days would be great when you have more options to choose a tablet. Xiaomi’s own software MiUi has a music streaming app which also supports both online and offline music and the collection is adequate.

  2. Looks like some really powerful software if I dare say so myself. I’m kind of not surprised there is no 3.5 headphone jack included, it seems like it is something that will be phased out as technology progresses! You mentioned that the only way to get one right now is through the Chinese version, so that being said, once the USA version comes out, do you think that a charger and instructions will be included?

    1. According to some reliable sources they claim the Global version may include a power adaptor but no info on the 3.5 mm headphone jack but if Xiaomi plans to launch a brand new model similar to this then they maybe include both. For the time being, let’s keep our fingers crossed.

  3. This looks like a great tablet.  I like the large 11″ screen and high resolution.  The price of $391 USD seems reasonable for a tablet of that quality and streaming capabilities.  I would love to have one but it seems that they are only available in China?  Do you know when they will be available in the US?

    1. Right now there are no official announcements from Xiaomi to launch this tablet globally, but according to some sources they might launch something similar like this device in the near future but for now, if you really want this you have to import it from china.
